Dermot Richard Claud Chichester, 7th Marquess of Donegall LVO ( April 18, 1916 - April 19, 2007 ) was an Irish peer , soldier and landowner .

Life

Chichester was the second son of Arthur Chichester, 4th Baron Templemore , and Clare Meriel Wingfield. He attended Harrow School in London and received military officer training from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst . He served in the 7th Queen's Own Hussars . he was in 1936 to 2nd Lieutenant , 1939 Lieutenant and later Captain and 1944 for Major transported. During the Second World War he was deployed in North Africa and in November 1942 was taken prisoner by the Germans in Libya , from which he was able to escape in June 1944 in Italy . In 1949 he left the British Army , but served for a few years with the Leicestershire Yeomanry .

Since his older brother Arthur Chichester had fallen in North Africa in December 1942, he inherited his father's title Baron Templemore , including the hereditary seat in the House of Lords, when his father died on October 2, 1953 . When his 4th uncle Edward Chichester, 6th Marquess of Donegall , died childless on May 24, 1975 , he also inherited his title of nobility and the hereditary office of Lord High Admiral of Lough Neagh .

In 1966 he became a member of the Honorable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms and was its standard bearer from 1984 to 1986. In 1986 he was accepted as a Lieutenant in the Royal Victorian Order (LVO). 1981 to 1992 he was Grand Master of the Irish Masonic Lodge (Grand Lodge of Ireland).

Under the House of Lords Act , he lost his hereditary seat in Parliament in 1999.

Marriage and children

On September 16, 1946, he married Lady Josceline Gabrielle Legge, daughter of William Legge, 7th Earl of Dartmouth , and Lady Ruperta Wynn-Carington. He has three children with her:
