Dermot Desmond

Dermot Desmond (born August 14, 1950 in Macroom ) is an Irish entrepreneur .

Life

Desmond worked for Citibank and then for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Afghanistan . In 1981 he founded the Irish company NCB Stockbrokers , which he sold in 1994. He then founded the investment company International Investment & Underwriting .

At the end of the 1990s he expressed his interest in buying the football team Manchester United , instead acquired further shares in the Scottish club Celtic Glasgow in 1999 from the former manager Fergus McCann and is the largest single shareholder in the Celtics with a 20% stake .

Desmond is married to Pat Desmond, has four children and lives in Dublin . According to Forbes Magazine , Desmond is one of the richest Irish people.
