Desperados 2: Cooper's Revenge is a real-time tactical game from the German developer Spellbound and was released for Windows in April 2006 . It is the sequel to Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive . The game was published by Atari .

John Cooper finds his brother Ross, who is a US marshal , dying, murdered by the men of a gang boss known only as "Angel Face". Cooper follows in the footsteps of the gang of criminals and comes across the machinations of the unscrupulous railroad entrepreneur Lester Lloyd Goodman. He wants to acquire Indian land and is also working with US cavalry soldiers. He receives support from a new ally, Chief Hawkeye, who is being held at Fort Wingate for his knowledge of the gang.
Gameplay
Desperados 2 retains the gameplay of its predecessor. The player controls his team in 18 missions with special skills (John Cooper, Sam Williams, Doc McCoy, Kate O'Hara, Pablo Sanchez), which are largely known from the predecessor. Only the character Mia Yung has been replaced by the Indian Hawkeye. In addition to an isometric overview perspective, the 3D engine now also allows free zoom and rotation of the camera.

In 2003 it was announced that Spellbound was working on a successor to Desperados . After the playfully similar 2D titles Robin Hood - The Legend of Sherwood (2002) and Chicago 1930 (2003), Spellbound switched to Trinigy's vision 3D engine for his new game .

“There just aren't enough Commandos-style games around these days for fans to be picky, and Desperados 2 offers a compelling Old West setting that feels remarkably fresh beside the glut of World War 2 and fantasy settings we normally see. Still, when you consider all the frustrations that come with it, it's a half-hearted recommendation at best, particularly when the original Desperados was so much more satisfying. ”

Sequels
At the Games Convention 2006 Spellbound presented an expansion for Desperados 2 with the title Desperados 2: Conspiracy . However, it was separated from the previous distribution partner Atari, which is why the expansion came onto the market in 2007 as a standalone title. Since the naming rights were with Atari, the game appeared under the title Helldorado .
At Gamescom 2018 , the publisher THQ Nordic, who had meanwhile taken over the rights to the series, announced the successor Desperados 3 . The game is being developed by the Mimimi developer studio .
