The Dessau Transport and Railway Company (DVE) is responsible for operations on the Dessau – Wörlitz railway line . The company was founded in 2001 to operate as a railway infrastructure company (EIU). It has also been a railway company (EVU) on the Dessau – Wörlitz route since 2011 , as the Anhaltische Bahn Gesellschaft ABG, as the previous operator, filed for bankruptcy in December 2010.

The first years

Between 1999 and 2001 the Dessau – Wörlitz railway line was completely renovated. The route fell into the possession of the city of Dessau. The EIU Dessauer Verkehrs- und Eisenbahngesellschaft was founded in the corporate group of Stadtwerke Dessau , which has since been a sister company to Dessau Transport Company . From then on, the Anhaltische Bahn Gesellschaft (ABG), a subsidiary of the Dessau-Wörlitzer Eisenbahn eV association , operated on behalf of the DVE. The two cars 670 005 (Elfriede) and 670 006 (Alfred) from DVE were rented for the ABG-owned double-decker rail bus of the 670 series with the number 670 002 (Alma). The ABG vehicle later served as a spare parts dispenser for the DVE vehicles.

In the following years, in addition to the maintenance and repair of the track and vehicles of the Wörlitz Railway, employees were also hired to work in the workshop and in the bus transport of the Dessau Transport Company. This also ensured rail replacement services in the event of failures on the railway line.

Current situation

After accidents and a smoldering fire in a double-decker rail bus, the 2010 season came to an end as a replacement rail service. As a result, the ABG filed for bankruptcy in December 2010. Thereupon the DVE also became active as an EVU . The first thing that was done was the 670 004 (ex 670 005) car with a new paint scheme and baptismal name "Fürst Franz", which has served the route every two hours since June 19, 2011 from Wednesday to Sunday. The car was used daily during the summer holidays. It was not until the 2012 season, which began on April 6, that the second car 670 003 (ex 670 006) was completed as "Princess Louise". The 670 004 car has been parked since May 2017 due to various defects and serves as a spare parts dispenser for 670 003. Since then, operations that went beyond the planned operation on the Wörlitz railway have not been possible (Ferropolis, two-train operation). The DVE therefore took over three vehicles of the 672 series from the former Burgenlandbahn in January 2020 and will be using two of these railcars from the start of the season in March 2020.
