Detail (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Detail was a British-Norwegian free jazz formation that existed between 1982 and 1994.

Live and act

The Trio Detail was founded at the end of 1981 by Frode Gjerstad (tenor saxophone, clarinet) and John Stevens (drums) with the pianist Eivin One Pedersen . In 1982 the trio was expanded to include double bass player Johnny Dyani ; after a first tour, Pedersen left the group, which continued to exist as a trio and was documented in their first publications. After Dyani's death in 1986, Kent Carter took over the bass part. The group played mostly in Scandinavia in the 1980s. There are seven albums of Detail in trio and extended line-up, such as the album Ness , which was made in Norway and England in 1986 (with Bobby Bradford , Courtney Pine and Harry Beckett as guest musicians). After their last concerts in 1994, the existence of the group ended with the death of John Stevens in September 1994. In 2015 First Detail was released , a recording of the formation's first concert at the Henie Onstad Art Center in Oslo.
