Detlef Enge (born April 12, 1952 in Schwanebeck ) was a football player in the top league of the GDR football league . There he played for 1. FC Magdeburg , with whom he was three times GDR champion, once GDR Cup winner and 1974 winner of the European Cup Winners' Cup . He is a 34-time junior and 12-time junior national player.

Life

The school sports community in his home town of Schwanebeck, northeast of the Harz Mountains, was the starting point for Enge's football career. The talented defender came into play for the first time in the junior national team of the GDR in November 1967 at the age of 15. Here he went through a successful career that culminated in winning the UEFA youth tournament in 1970 (forerunner of the U-21 European Championship). In total, Enge played 35 international matches with the junior team between 1967 and 1970. This was followed by 17 youth internationals by 1974.

The 1. FC Magdeburg secured in 1967 the emerging talent, and by appearances in the championship matches of the junior league he came at age 17 on November 26, 1969, at the European game Académica Coimbra - 1. FC Magdeburg (2: 0) first for his competitive match in the men's area. Until his first appearance in the GDR league , it took nine months before he was used as a right defender in the match between 1. FC Magdeburg - FC Vorwärts Berlin (1-0) on August 22, 1970. With 23 out of 26 league games, he became a regular player in the 1970/71 season. He won his first title in the men's division a year later with the GDR championship. With 24 stakes in the game, he played a major role in Magdeburg's first title win. On May 1, 1973, Enge was in Dessau with 1. FC Magdeburg in the final of the GDR soccer cup , which his team won 3-2, thanks in part to a goal from him, over 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig.

The 1973/74 football season was the year of superlatives for the now 22-year-old. On April 6, 1974, FCM made their second soccer championship perfect with a 3-2 win over FC Vorwärts Frankfurt. Enge, who was injured for a long time, was involved with 14 games. In May he was with the youth national team, for which he played a total of twelve games, Vice European Champion. On May 8, 1974, Enge played his most important football game. He was in Rotterdam with 1. FC Magdeburg in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup , which Magdeburg won 2-0 over AC Milan.

In the 1974/75 season, the end of Detlef Enge's high-performance career was already in sight. Although he was able to celebrate his third championship title with FCM at the end of the season, due to protracted injuries he was only used in five point games in the first half of the season. After he could not play a league game at all in 1975/76 and was only used once in the league in 1976/77, Enge ended his career as a league player at the end of this season at the age of 25. During his eight-year engagement in the league team of 1. FC Magdeburg, he had played 125 competitive games, 91 in the league, 20 in the GDR Cup and 14 games in the European Cup. At the end of his footballing career, Enge joined the Chemistry Schönebeck team, for whom he played in the second-rate GDR league for another year until they were relegated in 1978 .

In a newspaper interview, his former Magdeburg teammate Wolfgang Seguin reported that Enge has had no contact with 1. FC Magdeburg since 1980.
