Detloff Karsten

Detloff Ludolph Eobald Karsten (also Detlof or Dethlof ) (* 17th December 1787 in Bützow ; † 20th July 1879 in Berlin ) was a German lawyer, 1836-1846 Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Rostock and from 1848 to 1850 representatives of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in the provisional government in Frankfurt .

Life

Detloff Karsten was born as the son of the Privy Councilor and professor of economics at the University of Rostock Lorenz Karsten and his wife Elisabeth, née. Angel born. Karsten, whose father enrolled him at the University of Bützow at the age of 16 months , began studying law in Rostock in 1805, and later in Heidelberg , after completing his schooling . After graduation, he worked as a lawyer from 1809. On February 25, 1811 he became a councilor. On February 1, 1828 he was appointed syndic and thus also worked for the city's fourth mayor. On September 14, 1836 he was elected mayor. He became first mayor on April 18, 1844. As early as 1846, Friedrich Franz II. Appointed him to Schwerin. Karsten was a member of the government and represented the state of Mecklenburg-Schwerin until 1850 at the provisional central authority in Frankfurt am Main. In 1850 he was a member of the state house of the Erfurt Union Parliament . From 1850 he lived in retirement. Karsten was married to Mathilde Loockstaedt. There were no children from the marriage. His brother Karl Karsten was a well-known metallurgist.

Honors

On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of his appointment as councilor, Karsten was made an honorary citizen of Rostock on March 30, 1846 . His work for the city of Rostock with ... restless zeal was recognized .
