Detta O'Cathain, Baroness O'Cathain OBE (born February 3, 1938 in Laurel Hill , County Limerick , Ireland ) is a British former economic manager and politician of the Conservative Party from Ireland who has been a Life Peeress member of the House of Lords since 1991 is. Her last name is pronounced [oh ka-HOYN].

Life

After attending the Laurel Hill Convent in County Limerick, she completed her further training in Great Britain and then worked as a business manager, such as managing director of the Milk Marketing Board . She was also involved as a member of the Design Council between 1978 and 1980 and then the Engineering Council from 1980 to 1983. In 1984 she became director of Midland Bank and held this position until 1993. In addition, Detta O'Cathain was the 1983 Officer of the Order of the British Empire became and was a member of the Council of the Industrial Society from 1986 to 1992 , from 1985 to 2000 a member of the non-executive director of Tesco and from 1987 to 1994 of Sears . In 1990 she became General Manager of the Barbican Center , the largest cultural and conference center in London, and held this position until 1995.

Detta O'Cathain was raised to Life Peeress by a letters patent dated June 21, 1991 as Baroness O'Cathain , of The Barbican in the City of London. Shortly thereafter, on July 3, 1991, she was introduced as a member of the House of Lords . In the upper house she belongs to the faction of the Conservative Party.

She subsequently served on the extended board of directors of British Airways from 1993 to 2004 , of British Electric Traction (BET plc) from 1994 to 1996, and of BNP Paribas Holdings between 1995 and 2005 . She has also served on the extended boards of Thistle Hotels (1996-2003), South East Water (1998-2008), William Baird plc (2000-2002), and Alders plc (2000-2003).

Detta O'Cathain, who was first Vice-President from 1996 to 1998 and then President until 2001 of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) in Cookham , served as Patron of Women in Banking and Finance from 2000 to 2007 and has served as Chair of the Council since 2010 Chichester Cathedral .

She has been married to William Ernest John Bishop since 1968.
