The Deubener Weißeritzmühlgraben is an approximately 800 meter long mill canal of the Weißeritz in the Freital district of Deuben , which mainly supplied the Egermühle , but also other companies in the village.

Description and course

The inlet and the associated barrage are located on the corner of Jägerstraße / Turnerweg ( ). The sliding weir with rake and slide is still preserved, but badly damaged. The canal, set in quarry stone masonry and concrete, runs a few meters along Jägerstrasse and through the grounds of the Weißeritzgymnasium before it is piped for around 50 meters in the area of the Egermühle . The Weißeritzmühlgraben reappears on Lessingstrasse and now follows the course of Roseggerstrasse. In this area the retaining walls have partially collapsed. The Mühlgraben crosses under the Körnerstraße and crosses the area of the Sohre leather factory and Poisentalstraße. Near the former Böhmertmühle , the Mühlgraben takes on the Poisenbach , which then channeled through the former mill area and flows back into the Weißeritz ( ).

The Mühlgraben runs mainly on Deubener Flur, but also has sections that are in the districts of Niederhäslich , Schweinsdorf and Hainsberg .

history

The mill ditch was created together with the (later) Egermühle. With the beginning of the seaming on the Weißeritz in the 16th century at the instigation of George the Bearded , the weir was damaged, so that the mill owners were compensated by the state. Together with the Egermühle, the Mühlgraben was expanded and concreted in 1909, but was no longer the main source of energy for the mill due to the introduction of steam engines and later electrical energy.

From 1833 the Böhmertmühle used the ditch at the Poisenbach estuary. The “leather and drive belt factory Müller”, which later emerged from the Böhmertmühle, used the ditch to soak the skins to be tanned and to generate energy using a turbine. However, the slight gradient required a coupling with the neighboring power station on the other side of the Weißeritz.

The Sohre brothers' much larger leather factory was established in 1893 and extracted process water from the Deuben mill ditch. About 90 m³ of water were withdrawn per hour.

With the political and economic turnaround in 1989/90, Egermühle and leather factory ceased operations. The mill moat was closed and has not been used since then. On December 8, 1998, the entire facility was placed under protection as a technical monument .

During the floods in 2002 , the weir on Jägerstrasse was badly damaged, so that the Mühlgraben has been largely dry since then. In view of the poor structural condition of the bank walls, filling in large parts was considered. At the same time there were also efforts to make the Mühlgraben usable again and to build a hydroelectric power station on Roseggerstrasse.

In the course of the redesign of the area between Poisental-, Hinter- and Körnerstraße after the demolition of the remaining buildings of the leather factory in 2019, the Mühlgraben in this area is to be redeveloped, exposed and a central belt of a park between Körner- and Poisentalstraße, later flanked by administration buildings.
