The office is now in Freiburg im Breisgau . The company mainly promotes human, cultural and scientific exchange and less economic contacts. History of the company

The journalists and writers Joseph U. Graf and Rudolph E. Bollinger founded the German-Yemeni Society on July 27, 1970 with other colleagues. The focus of work was initially on the Arab Republic of Yemen (North Yemen) after the civil war had ended there in 1969. When it was founded, U. Graf was elected chairman. In 1981 the chairmanship changed to geographer Horst Kopp . During his presidency there was a first major wave of tourism, in the course of which he provided travelers with the first reliable maps of Yemen via the DJG. Under his leadership, the Yemen Report developed from a mere newsletter of the association's work into a journal on Yemeni cultural studies that is recognized in specialist circles. The unification of North and South Yemen to form a common state of Yemen on May 22, 1990 and German reunification had a significant impact on the DJG. On the one hand, new parts of the country were opened up for tourism and, on the other hand, the integration of the members of the former GDR-South Yemen friendship led to a significant increase in the number of members and the knowledge base. In 1994 the chairmanship changed again, now to Peter H. Hellmuth. Of the founding members, only Walter W. Müller is currently active on the advisory board.
