Topics range from substance dependence (z. B. Alcoholism and Drug Addiction) to substance addiction unbound (such. As pathological gambling ). There are cooperative relationships with the German headquarters for addiction issues in Hamm and the Fachverband Sucht e. V. in Bonn.

The association promotes the exchange of experience between science and practice as well as research activities. It contributes to consensus building and guideline development and organizes and supports specialist conferences. Her tasks also include advising scientific societies, political leaders and authorities, as well as public relations. The DG-Sucht promotes training, further education and training as well as the next generation. In this regard, she works with national and international companies with similar goals.

history

The DG Sucht was founded in 1978 on the initiative of Dietrich Kleiner (1921–2008) from a group of committed doctors, psychologists and lawyers. The organization of congresses has been one of the main tasks of DG Sucht from the very beginning. Until 2008, the congress and the scientific discussion were held alternately every two years. The aim of the scientific discussion is an exchange of experts on a given topic on a smaller scale, while the congress brings a larger range of topics closer to a larger number of interested parties. Since 2008 the congress has been held annually as the "German Addiction Congress". The leadership of the German Addiction Congress alternates between the DG Sucht and the German Society for Addiction Psychology . With the support of numerous other professional associations and the Federal Ministry of Health, the congresses took place in Mannheim in 2008, in Cologne in 2009, in Tübingen in 2010, and in Frankfurt a. M., 2012 in Berlin, 2013 in Bonn, 2014 in Berlin, 2015 in Hamburg and 2016 in Berlin.

Since 1990 DG Sucht has been publishing the scientific journal “Sucht” together with DHS. The DG Sucht is represented in the Drugs and Addiction Council of the German Federal Government and in the Advisory Council on Gambling Addiction. Since 2004, DG Sucht has awarded a research prize to young scientists every two years.
