Karl Mann (born October 29, 1948 in Mainz ) is a German doctor , psychiatrist and addiction researcher , from 1999 to 2014 holder of the first chair for addiction research in Germany at the Medical Faculty of Mannheim, University of Heidelberg , and Medical Director of the Clinic for Dependent Behavior and Addiction medicine , from 2006 to 2014 Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim .

biography

education

Mann studied human medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz , the University of Innsbruck , the University of Vienna and in the USA . Man received his doctorate in 1978 , Dr. med. He has been a specialist in neurology and psychiatry with additional qualifications in psychotherapy since 1985 and qualified as a professor in 1990 in psychiatry. From 1978 to 1979 he was a Research Fellow in Paris .

research

Mann's scientific focus is on alcohol and nicotine addiction , drug abuse and addiction , gambling addiction , neuroimaging, psychopharmacology and neurophysiology . He has carried out 22 projects on alcohol, drug and nicotine addiction . The projects were supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the European Union ( EU ), industry and the state of Baden-Württemberg .

Publications

Since 1980, Mann has published over 400 articles in international magazines, 19 books and around 100 book chapters.
