from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Muslim League e. V. (DML) is one of the oldest Islamic associations in Germany that has existed without interruption. It was founded by some German Muslims in Hamburg in 1949 and entered in the register of associations as a religious association in 1954 (Hamburg VR 5390). It is recognized as a non-profit organization. According to its own statements, the German Muslim League sees itself as “an organization that operates nationwide” and “represents the interests of German Muslims”. She wants to "offer German-born and German-speaking Muslims a down-to-earth platform". Only German nationals can be functionaries at DML. This is to demonstrate "that Islam is not a 'religion of foreigners', but an integral part of German society". Its members come from all over Germany.

The German Muslim League Bonn split off from it in the 1980s .

In 1992 the DML was included in the public lists of associations and their representatives kept by the Presidium of the German Bundestag . This gave her the right to be heard . She is also one of the founding members of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany (ZMD). Together with Pax Christi , the Action Group Service for Peace , the Central Council of Muslims in Germany and the Schura Hamburg , the DML participates in the Christian-Islamic Peace Work project in Germany.

Positions

In the conflict over the Mohammed caricatures , the chairman of the Muslim League, Belal El-Mogaddedi, stressed that every Muslim has the right to get angry about offensive caricatures and to take action against it within the framework of the law. However, freedom of the press and freedom of expression are an integral part of an open society, and Muslims "have to endure it". Together with other representatives of German Muslim associations, he condemned the attacks in Paris.
