The German Kidney Foundation was established in 1997 by Fokko van der Woude, Hendrika van der Woude-Griesen and Carl-Heinrich Esser. It is a foundation under private law and exclusively and directly pursues charitable and charitable purposes. The seat of the foundation is Mannheim . The office is located in Darmstadt . history

On June 23, 1997, Fokko van der Woude, Hendrika van der Woude-Griesen and Carl-Heinrich Esser founded the German Kidney Foundation. After the statutes were signed in Mannheim, the establishment of the foundation was approved by the Karlsruhe Regional Council. The Dutch Kidney Foundation acted as a model for the founders. Jürgen Schwiezer took over the chairmanship. Since the German Kidney Foundation was founded, 30 scholarships have been awarded, information brochures on topics related to kidney diseases have been published and those affected have been supported.

Bodies

The organs of the German Kidney Foundation consist of the board of directors, the foundation board and committees. The chairman is Werner Riegel. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees is Karlwilhelm Kühn. The scientific council selects the scholarship holders. The Social Committee advises on the support of those affected who have turned to the German Kidney Foundation. The members of the organs of the German Kidney Foundation are volunteers. In addition to the foundation itself, there is a support association and a research administration GmbH.

Support association

The friends' association was founded together with the German Kidney Foundation. It supports the goals of the German Kidney Foundation and is intended to improve the treatment and care of people with kidney disease. The purpose of the association is to raise funds, accept donations, and manage and forward these funds to the German Kidney Foundation. With the membership fees projects in the field of kidney diseases are to be financed on a permanent basis. Both natural and legal persons can become members. There are sustaining memberships for companies and organizations. The seat of the association is Mannheim, the office is in Darmstadt.

Senta Berger has been the official patron of the German Kidney Foundation since 2011. As part of filming for the doctor series “Dr. Schwarz and Dr. Martin ”of Bayerischer Rundfunk, she took the glimpse into a dialysis station as an opportunity to campaign for the kidney issue.
