German wrestling league

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Ringer League (DRL) is a professional wrestling league in Germany. The DRL was founded on July 31, 2016 and started its first season on September 30, 2017. The DRL is independent of the German Wrestling Federation (DRB) and is currently considered by this as a wild league .

founding

After years of disputes about the league structures, policy changes, threats of sanctions and the presentation of wrestling, there was a rift with the German Wrestling Association in early 2016 . Five teams from the top German clubs, including the German champions from previous years Weingarten and Nendingen , finally founded the German Wrestling League on July 31, 2016. Further attempts at conversation between the quarreling parties were unsuccessful. Also an offer of mediation by Prime Minister a. D. Kurt Beck as mediator was rejected by the German Wrestling Association. Both judicial and extrajudicial proceedings are currently pending.

The clubs do not go to the start themselves, but with their respective corporations.

The competitions of the German Wrestling League were held for the first time in the 2017/2018 season.

The model for the German Wrestling League is the national Polish league KLZ.

Season 2017/2018

The first season was marked by threats and bans on the part of the World Association UWW and the German Wrestling Federation. As a result, many German top wrestlers in particular let themselves be intimidated and did not start in the DRL. Therefore, unlike in the Bundesliga, mostly foreigners started.

The first day of the fight with the encounter between Germania Weingarten and Schifferstadt took place on September 30, 2017. All teams fought against each other three times this season. At the end of the group phase, Ispringen and Schifferstadt took the first two places and therefore fought out the championship among themselves. Places three to five went to Weingarten , Nendingen and Eisleben.

In a tight final on February 9, 2018, KSV Ispringen became the first German DRL champion. The Nordbadener beat VfK Schifferstadt from Rhineland-Palatinate with a tie due to the higher number of individual wins .

In its first season, the DRL managed to present the wrestling again on German free TV. Four fights in the group stage and both finals were broadcast in 30-minute summaries on the Sport1 broadcaster.

Goals and Philosophy

The most important goals of the DRL are the representation of interests and the democratic self-determination of the member associations within the DRL.

The DRL sees itself as a service provider for the member associations, an excessive financial burden goes against this philosophy. Therefore, apart from a small basic fee, no further fees should be charged. Furthermore, the DRL naturally recognizes the national and international anti-doping rules.

The aim is also to adopt a binding program for young talent.

In the DRL every club has one vote, membership applications are decided with a 2/3 majority.

The league serves to professionally market the ring sport.
