Devers is a city in Liberty County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

geography

The city is located in the southeast corner of the county, in southeast Texas, about 70 km to the east from Louisiana , and about 55 km to the southeast from the Gulf of Mexico .

history

When it was founded in 1832, the settlement was called Carter Station , named after one of the first settlers, later Dever's Woods , after Thomas Philip and John Dever. Around 1870 the place got connection to the Texas and New Orleans Railroad and in 1874 the first post office. In 1892 the name was changed to its current form.

Demographic data

According to the 2000 census, 416 people lived here in 141 households and 111 families. The population density was 85.9 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 69.47% White, 14.90% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 13.94% other ethnic groups. About 1.44% were mixed race and 20.43% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
