GHI Media, LLC , known as Devolver Digital , is an American computer game publisher and film distributor , best known for its Serious Sam and Hotline Miami game series . The focus of the company is on the publication of games from the so-called indie scene for various platforms. At the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW Film) 2013, the company also announced that it would also be active in film distribution in the future .

history

The Austin, Texas-based company was founded by Mike Wilson, Harry Miller and Rick Stults, the founders of the former game publishers Gathering of Developers and Gamecock. The company's first releases were the HD remakes of the first two parts of the shooter series Serious Sam , Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter (2009) and Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter (2010). After the release of Serious Sam 3: BFE (2011), Devolver experimented with the idea of ​​shifting his focus to indie game development. With the Serious Sam series as a test field, Devolver Digital developed the game Serious Sam: The Random Encounter (2011) together with indie developer Vlambeer . Devolver Digital has continued this approach since then and published the title Hotline Miami in collaboration with developer Dennaton Games in 2012 . The title earned critical acclaim and was part of several best-of lists of 2012. By February 2013, Hotline Miami had sold over 300,000 copies . Hotline Miami was released for Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in June 2013 .

At the 2013 South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW Film), Devolver Digital announced a commercialization arm called Devolver Digital Films to help independent film makers digitally distribute and promote their films. Devolver Digital Films is directed by Mike Wilson and Andie Grace.
