Gathering of Developers, Inc. (also known by the short forms Gathering and God Games ) was a subsidiary of Take 2 Interactive based in New York , USA . Gathering was founded at the turn of the year 1997/98 by Mike Wilson and Harry A. Miller in Dallas , Texas . The goal: to be able to develop games without pressure from a publisher . The founding studios include 3D Realms , Edge of Reality , Epic MegaGames , PopTop Software , Ritual Entertainment and Terminal Reality .

From 1999 Take 2 served them as a distribution label for computer games, first in the United States and later worldwide. In 2000, Gathering was completely taken over by Take 2. Part of this takeover was also the company takeover of PopTop Software. The other founding studios remained independent and only signed, if at all, publishing contracts with Take 2.

In 2004 the incorporation of Gatherings into the sister company Global Star Software was announced, so that for a while Gathering no longer existed as a label, but still existed as a subsidiary of Take 2. The 2K Games label represents the quasi-successor , as many games that were previously supposed to appear at Gathering were later published by 2K Games (e.g. Close Combat: First to Fight ). Some series of 2K Games were also continued (e.g. with Stronghold 2 , Serious Sam II or Vietcong 2 ).
