Devon is a small town in South Africa in the local community of Lesedi , Gauteng Province . In addition to the historic settlement center, the township Impumelelo belongs to the village. Devon is about 84 kilometers from Johannesburg .

The name of the village was coined by a former surveyor who named it after his home region in England.

location

The village is located in the extreme eastern sector of the local community and is accessed by the regional roads R29 and R548. The N17 national road , which has a Devon junction here, passes close by . A railway line runs through the place, which leads from Springs in the west in an easterly direction to Secunda and the road junction Bethal to the railway junction Ermelo .

population

According to the census carried out in 2011, 347 people lived in the town center, originally founded by European immigrants, 1009 people in the eastern industrial settlement on the R29 regional road and 8223 people in the Impumelelo township. The total population was 9579 people in 2905 households according to the census.

economy

The surroundings of the place essentially consist of agricultural land. Like Heidelberg to the west, Devon is a small center with regional services. The agricultural activities include a. Livestock, milk and poultry production and vegetable growing.
