Dhenkanal is a city in the Indian state of Odisha .
Dhenkanal is the capital of the district of the same name . The city was raised to a municipality on April 18, 1951 . It is divided into 23 wards . The city is 35 km northwest of the city of Cuttack , with which it is connected by rail and national highways.
In the 2011 census, the population was 67,414.
Dhenkanal was the capital of the princely state of the same name .
