Dhoraji is a city in the Indian state of Gujarat .

The city is the part of the Rajkot district . Dhoraji has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 12 wards (constituencies).

history

Dhoraji was acquired by Kumbhaji II of Gondal from the princely state of Junagadh in the middle of the 18th century. With the arrival of the railway, a new part of the city of Dhoraji was planned between the train station and the old town with wide avenues, intersections, parks, bazaars and public buildings. The city is thus a good example of the urban planning of an Indian city during British rule .

Demographics

The population of the city is 84,545 according to the 2011 census. Dhoraji has a gender ratio of 953 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus that is usual for India. The literacy rate was 81.8% in 2011. Almost 63% of the population are Hindus , approx. 36% are Muslim and approx. 1% belong to another or no religion. 10.2% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
