Gondal was a princely state of British India in the center of the Kathiawar peninsula in what is now the state of Gujarat . Its capital was the place Gondal . The principality was founded by Thakur Sahib Kumbhoji I (1634–69), a Jadeja - Rajputs . It was a British protectorate from 1807 to 1947. Bhagwatsimhji Sagramji (1869–1944) and Bhojrajji (1944–52) were personally allowed to use the Maharaja title. In 1941 Gondal had an area of 2652 square kilometers and 237,000 inhabitants, consisting of two parts of the area.
On August 15, 1947 Gondal became a member of the Saurashtra State Union and on February 15, 1948 it joined India. On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved and incorporated into the state of Bombay . When Bombay was partitioned on May 1, 1960, Gondal became part of Gujarat .
