Gondal was a princely state of British India in the center of the Kathiawar peninsula in what is now the state of Gujarat . Its capital was the place Gondal . The principality was founded by Thakur Sahib Kumbhoji I (1634–69), a Jadeja - Rajputs . It was a British protectorate from 1807 to 1947. Bhagwatsimhji Sagramji (1869–1944) and Bhojrajji (1944–52) were personally allowed to use the Maharaja title. In 1941 Gondal had an area of ​​2652 square kilometers and 237,000 inhabitants, consisting of two parts of the area.

On August 15, 1947 Gondal became a member of the Saurashtra State Union and on February 15, 1948 it joined India. On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved and incorporated into the state of Bombay . When Bombay was partitioned on May 1, 1960, Gondal became part of Gujarat .
