Diocese of Sliven
The Diocese of Sliven ( Bulgarian Сливенска епархия / Sliwenska Eparchija) is an eparchy ( diocese ) of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church with its seat in Sliven . The Diocese of Sliven is now divided into seven ecclesiastical administrative districts ( Okolija ): Sliven, Burgas , Jambol , Karnobat , Elchowo , Malko Tarnowo and Kotel . There are around 380 places of worship and 8 monasteries in the diocese. The eparchy was founded in 1870 when the Bulgarian Orthodox Church was founded by theSultansferman regained her independence from the Greek Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 1870 . Bulgarians had previously been installed as bishops of the eparchy.
