Di- sec -butyl ether is a chemical compound from the group of ethers that is liquid at room temperature , more precisely a mixture of three stereoisomeric ethers. Like most dialkyl ethers, the compound is relatively inert.
Stereochemistry
Di- sec -butyl ether contains two identically substituted stereocenters . Hence there are three stereoisomers:
- ( R , R ) -di- sec -butyl ether,
- ( S , S ) -di- sec -butyl ether and
- meso- di- sec -butyl ether.
In practical use, only the mixture of these three stereoisomers is relevant.
