Diabon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Diabon is a registered trademark of SGL CARBON SE and describes a material made of graphite that is acid, heat and corrosion resistant. Diabon is an artificial word. The material, also known as apparatus construction graphite, is particularly suitable for the construction of heat exchangers due to its properties .

composition

Diabon mainly consists of polycrystalline graphite , the open pores of which are closed with the help of a phenolic resin , so that a gas- and liquid-tight material is created. Depending on the intended use, different proportions of crystalline carbon and impregnation plastic are used; In addition, the pore volume and the pore size distribution have an influence on the material properties.

Substance properties

The material is resistant to most concentrated acids such as hydrochloric acid , hydrofluoric acid , phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid and to aqueous solutions that contain halides , nitrates or sulfates . Diabon is not resistant to strongly oxidizing substances such as nitric acid , highly concentrated sulfuric acid (oleum) or chromic acid .
