The Moussier's Redstart ( Phoenicurus moussieri ) is a bird art from the genus of redstarts . This genus is depending on the author to the family of flycatchers (Muscicapidae) and the closely related family of reactors arranged (Turdidae).
Systematics
The relationships of this species are unclear: both the biogeography and the color pattern are peculiar. Judged from these points of view, the tiara redstart appears to be more closely related to the black redstart than to other species of this genus such as the common redstart .
description
Appearance
Like all redstart species, the diademed redstart has a very pronounced sexual dimorphism : the approximately 13 centimeter tall male has a black head with a wide white stripe that runs above the eye and down the side of the neck. The top is black except for a white wing band, the tail is a deep chestnut brown. At the bottom it is deeply orange-red.
The head and top of the smaller, shorter-tailed female are pale brown; the underside is colored a paler orange than that of the male, but is generally more red than the underside of the similar-looking but slightly larger female of the common redstart.
singing
The male's song consists of a mixture of scratchy noises and svii-svii tones. The call is a plaintive, monosyllabic hii .
Habitat and Distribution
The diadem redstart lives and breeds as an endemic resident bird in the Atlas Mountains in north-west Africa .
The habitat of this bird species are light forest areas in rocky mountain regions at an altitude of up to 3000 meters.
Way of life
The diet of the diadem redstart corresponds to that of the flycatcher, which means that it hunts for insects flying by from a perch .
The diadem redstart builds its nest in the bushes or on the ground; the clutch usually consists of three to six eggs.
