Diakonie-Krankenhaus Harz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Today's Diakonie-Krankenhaus Harz in Elbingerode (Harz) as part of the German Community Diakonieverband was created in 1939 from the hospital work of the deaconess mother house “Neuvandsburg”. From this, the departments of internal medicine, surgery and the maternity department developed during the GDR era . In the next few years, the hospital made a name for itself with additional services. In 1985 psychotherapeutic medicine opened with 15 beds and in 1976 work began in the field of addiction medicine.

Repositioning of the hospital after the fall of the wall

After the reunification of Germany , the hospital was converted into the independent Diakonie-Krankenhaus "Neuvandsburg" GmbH in 1991, to which the Ev. Specialist hospital for respiratory diseases in Neustadt / Harz belongs as well as other facilities of the addiction therapy group in Wernigerode , Blankenburg and Rübeland .

In order to create a long-term sustainable basis, the range of services had to be reconsidered. The aim here was to occupy medical and nursing fields of work that fit well with the Diakonie mandate, to preserve as many jobs as possible and to develop an economic basis that enables the hospital to continue to exist over the long term. With the restructuring of the hospital in 1991, the surgical ward was closed.

After the reunification, the number of employees could be increased significantly and thus many jobs were created. While the hospital still had 167 employees in 1989, the number increased to around 400 by 2005. The bed capacity also increased from 225 to 400 beds during this period. This development was only possible because the hospital management, in coordination with the other healthcare providers in the region and in accordance with the ideas of the ministry and health insurance companies, only developed offers that were not yet well represented in the region. In this way, all departments of the Diakonie-Krankenhaus Harz GmbH achieved a very high level of specialization, are of supra-regional importance and live in an active complement and cooperation with regional hospitals, doctors, nursing services, etc.

The home care service of the Diakonie Hospital has been offering nursing and medical help and advice since 1996, which takes place at the patient's home.

Since September 1, 2000, the hospital has been officially called "Diakonie-Krankenhaus Harz GmbH", Elbingerode.

In order to be able to improve the accommodation and treatment options, construction of the rehabilitation clinic began in 1995 . This was inaugurated in 1997. This was followed by the construction of the acute hospital. In 2000, the departments of internal medicine , the department for psychosomatics and psychotherapy and psychiatry addiction moved into the completed building.

Internal Medicine

Since the end of the 1990s, internal medicine has also carried out qualified detoxification in-house and has been providing basic care for the Upper Harz since 2000, including specializing in gastroenterology and cardiology . Christian Woratz has been the chief physician for internal medicine since 2000.

Department of Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy (APP)

The department for psychosomatics and psychotherapy continuously developed its therapy offers. Today, psychosomatic illnesses and disorders, neurotic disorders, eating disorders and disorders after extreme stress situations are treated. In 1997, the offer was expanded to include a day clinic with twelve beds. The APP's chief physician is Ulrike Birth. The department now has 18 inpatient beds and 16 day clinic places.

Addiction medicine (rehabilitation clinic, psychiatry, addiction therapy network)

In the mid-1970s, the vision of the motherhouse management was to provide help for the mentally ill. Then Klaus-Herbert Richter, a specialist in neurology and psychiatry, was employed in 1976. With that began the addiction work. First outpatient, then in 1981 inpatient with 20 beds. In 1989/90 there were 33 places, u. a. with the Degenerstraße outdoor station in Wernigerode .

After 1989, the work was gradually expanded and differentiated according to the new social law requirements. Weaning took place in the rehab clinic, detoxification and crisis intervention in psychiatry and internal medicine, further help in the complementary area (assisted living, social therapeutic living, permanent residence, day care center) and on an outpatient basis in the counseling center and addiction clinic. Drug therapy began in the mid-1990s. With the construction of the rehabilitation clinic in 1997, 132 beds were available for medical rehabilitation. Of course, the number of employees grew with the work and the management structure developed. Eckhart Grau is now head of addiction medicine, Stephan Gerhardt is responsible for psychiatry, and the leading therapists Joachim Stopp and Klaus-Dieter Krebs are responsible for the inpatient, complementary and outpatient areas.

An annual highlight are the contact meetings for former patients with over 1000 participants, which have been taking place since 1979. The award from the chief physician K.-H. Richter with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by the then Prime Minister Reinhard Höppner shows that the establishment and expansion of comprehensive addiction work is also recognized and valued by the state of Saxony-Anhalt .

In February 2003, the hospital in Elbingerode was the third hospital in Germany to be awarded the seal of approval for hospitals by KTQ and proCum Cert , and in 2006 it received the certificate again.

Upper Harz Medical Center
