Dianema is a genus of slime molds from the order of the Trichiida . It comprises ten species, including some so-called nivicole.

features

The fruiting bodies are scattered, heaped or plasmodiocarp standing Sporokarpe . The peridium is either membranous or cartilaginous. The capillitium consists of simple or forked, narrow threads that are smooth or slightly roughened on the surface. They are anchored at the base of the sporocarp and mostly also at the upper peridium. The spores are pale yellow in transmitted light .

distribution

Dianema species have so far been detected in Europe (e.g. Scandinavia, Central Europe), Asia (e.g. Mongolia, China) and North America (e.g. California, Colorado, Mexico). Finds from South America were not known until 1976; but it is considered beyond doubt that they will also be discovered in the mountains there during an intensive search. Overall, however, they are rarely found, the most common being Dianema corticatum . Some species are nivicol, that is, they grow on the snow line at the time the snow melts.

Systematics and research history

The genus was first described by George Abraham Rex in 1891 , the type species is Dianema harveyi . The genus includes ten species:
