Dianthus knockii is a species of the genus Dianthus .

description

Dianthus knockii is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 30 to 60 centimeters. The plant is hairy. The leaves are grass-like, green and up to 5 millimeters wide. Flowering stems are stiffly erect. The inflorescence has few flowers . The flowers are yellow. The cup is up to 15 millimeters long. The tips of the chalice scales are awn-like. The petals are more or less wedge-shaped.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Occurrence

Dianthus knockii occurs in the northwest of the Balkan Peninsula. The species grows in grassy locations and in wooded corridors.

Dianthus knockii is widely used as an ornamental plant for heather gardens and rock gardens. The species is the parent species of all yellow carnation cultivars. She has been in culture since 1898.
