Goran Đukanović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Горан Ђукановић , born November 5, 1976 in Cetinje ) is a former Montenegrin handball player . The 1.89 m tall middle back player ran for the national teams of Yugoslavia , Serbia and Montenegro and Montenegro .
Career
Goran Đukanović began playing handball in his hometown at RK Lovćen Cetinje . From 1993 to 1995 he was loaned to the RK Mornar and the RK Sutjeska, as the use of minors in the first Yugoslav league was prohibited. In 1995 he returned to Cetinje, two years later he switched to MRK Budućnost Podgorica for one season . After returning to Lovćen, he won the Yugoslav Championship in 2000 and 2001 and the Yugoslav Cup in 2002 and 2003. He then ran for Trieste in Italy. In 2005 he was signed by the Croatian top club RK Zagreb , which he left in January 2006 for Slovenia to join RK Gold Klub Kozina . From 2006 he played again for Cetinje and in 2007 won the first edition of the Montenegrin championship and cup. In the spring of 2009 he went to Podgorica again. In the meantime he also played for Al-Ahli in Doha and won the Qatari championship.
With the Yugoslav national team Goran Đukanović won the bronze medal at the 2001 World Cup . He finished fourth at the 2000 Olympic Games . At the 2005 World Cup he finished fifth with the Serbian-Montenegrin national team . He led the Montenegrin national team to twelfth place as captain at the 2008 European Championships . In total, he played around 150 international matches .
In 2000, Đukanović was named Sportsman of the Year in Montenegro.
Goran Đukanović has been running a handball academy in Podgorica since 2010 .
