features

The abdomen of D. obscura , measuring between 15 and 19 millimeters in males, is black on the upper side of the first two segments . On the sides of the first three segments, the black partially changes into a brownish hue. The rest of the abdomen is dark brown. The upper abdominal appendages are about as long as the ninth and tenth segments put together. The lower ones, however, are only half as long as the upper ones. The dark brown abdomen of the females tends to be slightly smaller and measures between 14.5 and 17 millimeters.

The chest ( thorax ) is black on the back and brownish on the sides in both sexes. The legs are dark brown. The wings are wide and measure between 21 and 25 millimeters for the males and 20 to 24 millimeters for the females on both pairs of wings. At the nodus the hind wings are about nine and a half millimeters wide. The color of the wings is dark to black, with the females the veins on the wing base are red.
