Dick's Picks Volume 6 is a Live - triple album of the band Grateful Dead .

history

The songs from the album were recorded on October 14, 1983 at Hartford Civic Center in Hartford , Connecticut , and released on October 7, 1996 under their own label, Grateful Dead Records .

Like the previous album in the Dick's Picks series, Dick's Picks Volume 5 , Dick's Picks Volume 6 plays an entire concert. In contrast to the previous albums, which all included concert material from the 1970s, this was the first time material from the 1980s was used.

A problem with the compilation of the album was that the concert recordings from the early 80s were of poor quality overall and the recording quality could not keep up with the other stage technology. For this reason, the Dick's Picks series was primarily intended for recordings from the 1970s.

This album first played Keep Your Day Job by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter , supposedly because the Deadheads did not approve of the lyrics.

The name Dick's Pick comes from the official recording archivist of the band Dick Latvala , who started the series and selected the songs for it until his death in 1999.

Like the previous albums in the Dick's Pick series, this one also has a caveat emptor warning:

" This compact disc has been digitally remastered directly from the original metal cassette. It is a snapshot of history, not a modern professional recording, and may therefore exhibit some technical anomalies and the unavoidable effects of the ravages of time. "
