The Arista Years is a compilation album by the band Grateful Dead .

history

During the time with the Arista label , the Deads recorded eight live and studio albums between 1977 and 1990. Various songs from these albums were used for the compilation album The Arista Years . A double album was put together, which was released on October 15, 1996 both as a CD and as a cassette.

The Arista Years is the first best-of-compilation album by Grateful Dead since Dead Zone: The Grateful Dead CD Collection (1977-1987) from 1987. With the album at that time, Arista could not achieve high sales figures, so the label only once refrained from releasing a new best-of album. However, after the Dick's Pick series was successful and Jerry Garcia died in August 1996, Arista decided on a new album. Although The Arista Years did not go gold , it sold well and made it onto the Billboard charts .

Rick Griffin was again responsible for the cover , who together with Stanley Mouse , had created covers for the Grateful Dead in the past.

Selections from the Arista Years

In addition to the album The Arista Years , an album called Selections from the Arista Years was also released. However, while The Arista Years was only intended for sale on the open market, Selections from the Arista Years was a purely promotional album for radio stations and record dealers. Only later was the album released for everyone. It was first released as a simple album on January 13, 1997.
