Stanley George Miller (born October 10, 1940 in Fresno , California ), better known as Mouse and Stanley Mouse , is an American artist . He was best known for his psychedelic posters and record covers , which he created since the mid-1960s.

biography

Born in California to an animator at Disney Studios, Stanley Miller grew up in Detroit . He got his nickname at school, where he stood out for his many drawings. As a teenager, he painted graffiti on house walls, later he painted cars and T-shirts in airbrush technique. In 1959 he founded Mouse Studios with his family, through which he sold his products.

In 1965 he traveled to San Francisco with fellow students , where he then stayed. He met Alton Kelley , with whom he then worked for many years. Kelley was a member of the Family Dog , which organized music and dance events, for example in the Avalon Ballroom or the Fillmore West . Mouse and Kelley began drawing psychedelic posters for these events in 1966.

In 1967 Mouse, Kelley, Rick Griffin , Victor Moscoso and Wes Wilson - known as "The San Francisco 5" - founded the Berkeley Bonaparte Distribution Agency. Mouse and Kelley, who also worked for Mouse Studies and The Monster Company, created a number of record covers , including for the bands Journey and Grateful Dead .

In the late 1960s Mouse was some time in London , where he lower including the Rolls-Royce of Eric Clapton with a flame pattern painted. He also worked for the Beatles and Blind Faith . A cover for Jimi Hendrix was in the works when he suddenly died.

After stays in Toronto, among others, Mouse returned to California in 1971. With Kelley he created numerous works until 1980, especially for the Grateful Dead and Journey. In the 1980s he continued to work mostly alone and also turned to oil painting.
