Forrest Richard "Dickey" Betts (born December 12, 1943 in West Palm Beach , Florida ) is an American guitarist and rock musician.

Life

The guitarist Richard "Dickey" Betts is one of the founding members of the American Allman Brothers Band , which was formed around the Duane & Gregg Allman brothers in the late 1960s and whose style (blues rock, jazz, country) is called Southern Rock . His best-known compositions with the Allman Brothers were the hit "Ramblin 'Man", the instrumental song "Jessica" dedicated to his daughter and the longer instrumental piece "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", which was repeatedly changed in numerous improvisations. In 1995 “Jessica” was awarded a Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance .

The album Live at Fillmore East (1971) is regarded as a milestone of all live rock music to this day . Betts has not been a member of ABB since the late 1990s ; he was notified of this by fax. Since then he has been pursuing his solo projects (including with his own band Great Southern ) (as he did in the 1970s ).

Dickey Betts is on the list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time American music magazine Rolling Stone Magazine at 61. place. In a list from 2003 he was ranked 58th.

Guitars

In the early years of the Allman Brothers Band, Betts often used a Gibson SG . Above all, Betts made an appearance as a player on a Gibson Les Paul Goldtop. He later switched to PRS Guitars . Today Betts plays Gibson Les Paul guitars again; there are now two Dickey Betts signature guitars.
