Dick pic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Dickpic is a colloquial partial acronym for a penis picture (usually in an erect state) that is sent via the Internet , but can also be sent by conventional mail or otherwise published, e.g. B. by stickers, posters or graffiti. This practice usually occurs for exhibitionistic reasons and counts as sexual harassment if it occurs without the recipient's consent. The unintentional sending of offensive pictures such as Dickpics via Apple's Wi-Fi service AirDrop is also referred to by the media as cyberflashing .

origin

The term is a suitcase word and is made up of the English terms thick (dt. Tail) and pic for picture (dt. Picture) and literally means tail image.

background

The main reason for sending such pictures is a problem with one's own masculinity . This should be demonstrated to women with such images and thereby represent an exercise of power and the conscious crossing of boundaries. A study that appeared in the Journal of Sex Research shows that those who send such images have narcissistic personality traits. By deliberately crossing borders, courage and dominance should be expressed, although the broadcaster is aware of the negative effect. The protection of anonymity mostly serves as a back-up for the sender. Rejection and criticism by the recipient usually lead to extremely insulting and aggressive behavior, as the woman compensates for the difference in power through her critical reaction. This moment is perceived as unbearable for the man, since he is denied the perception of being strong and the requested confirmation of masculinity. The reactions of women are mostly described as anger , indignation and horror. As a rule, the trigger for these reactions is not the dickpic itself, but the unwillingness, because the woman does not have the choice whether she wants to look at the picture.

In a British study, 2121 women and 1738 men between the ages of 18 and 36 were asked about Dickpics. 46 percent of the women surveyed stated that they had already received a Dickpic. Of the women who received such a picture, 89% did not ask for it. 30% of men said they had been asked by a woman to send them a dick pic, and 22% of men said they had ever sent one. 21% of men who sent a dickpic said they did so without being asked.

Legal position

The unsolicited sending of a dick pic is a criminal offense in Germany according to Section 184 (unauthorized distribution of pornographic writings ) in the Criminal Code and can be punished with a prison sentence of up to one year or a fine .

reaction

The topic was dealt with in the 15-minute film Men's Worlds from 2020 by Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf . The moderator Palina Rojinski showed a gallery of penis photos that were sent to her or her friends over the Internet.
