Dicorynia guianensis is a tree in the legume family in the carob subfamily. It occurs in Suriname , French Guiana and Guyana .

description

Dicorynia guianensis grows as an evergreen tree up to 35–45 meters high. The bark is red-brown and the trunk diameter is up to 150 centimeters. It can buttress roots occur.

The stalked and alternate leaves are unpaired pinnate with 5 to 7 (9) leaflets . The leathery, pointed or pointed and entire, egg-shaped to elongated, short-stalked leaflets are glabrous on top and slightly hairy on the underside. They are up to 7-15 centimeters long and up to 6 centimeters wide. The leaflets are light to pale green underneath, with pinnate veins . The stipules fall off early.

The paniculate inflorescences are rusty and hairy. The white flowers with double bloom are petiolate. The flower stalk is at a "joint". There are various sloping bracts . The unequal 5 free, boat-shaped sepals are hairy with rust on the outside and white and bald on the inside. The outer 3 are plump and somewhat leathery. The 3 large petals are nailed short with a rounded plate and sloping early. They are slightly rusty and hairy on the edge of the plate. There are only two stamens with thick, runny stamens on the inside, a shorter and a longer one, they each have “8” pollen sacs. The upper continuous elongated ovary with a conical stylus is hairy dark brown. The small scar is heady.

Flat and one side short winged, about 3–7 centimeters long, leathery legumes with only weak hairs are formed. They only open on one side, if at all. The up to 3 round, flat and smooth seeds are about 15 millimeters in size.
