Dicranocephalus albipes is a bug from the family of Stenocephalidae .

features

The bugs are 10.8 to 13.2 millimeters long. The brown colored animals with a beige pattern are difficult to distinguish from Dicranocephalus medius and Dicranocephalus agilis , but are somewhat larger than Dicranocephalus medius and have a more elongated body. The other two species differ from Dicranocephalus albipes in that they have fine nodules between the wing veins on the membranes of the hemielytras . In Dicranocephalus albipes these spaces are completely smooth. The antennae and legs are very hairy blackish. Dicranocephalus albipes can be distinguished from the other two species by the color of the antennae . The second antennae is almost entirely whitish-yellow in color. Only the apical end is black. In contrast to the other two types, there is no black ring in the middle of this antenna element. The fourth antenna segment is colored reddish or light gray with the exception of the whitish-yellow base. In the middle and posterior femora , which are otherwise whitish-yellow, the apical quarter is black. The anterior femora are black with the exception of the base.

distribution and habitat

The species is found mainly in the Mediterranean area, where it is common. The occurrence extends in the east to the Middle East and the Caucasus . To the north, the distribution area extends to Central Europe and the southern half of Germany, where it is rare.

Way of life

The animals feed on milkweed ( Euphorbia ). They prefer dry, warm open land biotopes with limestone or sandy grasslands as their habitat.
