Didier Stainier
Didier YR Stainier (born October 31, 1963 in Liège ) is a Belgian-American biologist and developmental geneticist .
Life
Didier Stainier studied biology at the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales , the University of Liege in Belgium and the Brandeis University in Waltham in the US state of Massachusetts . In 1990 he graduated as a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Harvard University . He was then a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston , became Assistant Professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in 1995, Associate Professor in 2000 and Professor in 2003. Since 2012 he has been director at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim and director of the "Development Genetics" department. At the same time, he has been a "Scientific Member" of the Max Planck Society since 2012.
research
Stainier deals with issues of organogenesis including cell differentiation , tissue morphogenesis , organ homeostasis and function as well as organ regeneration. He mainly uses zebrafish and mice as model organisms .
