Didrik Nyholm

Didrik Galtrup Gjedde Nyholm (born  June 21, 1858 in Randers , †  August 31, 1931 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish lawyer . He served as a judge at the Mixed Courts of Justice in Egypt from 1896 to 1921 and at the Permanent International Court of Justice from 1922 to 1930 .

Life

Didrik Nyholm was born in Randers in 1858 and, after studying law at the University of Copenhagen , initially worked in the Danish Ministry of the Interior. From 1896 he worked, first in al-Mansura and from 1902 in Cairo , as a judge at the mixed courts of justice in Egypt . In Cairo he was Vice-President from 1916 and President of the Court from 1920. From 1913 he was also a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague .

After the end of the First World War , he returned to Europe in 1921. In September of the same year he was elected by the Assembly and the Council of the League of Nations as judge at the Permanent International Court of Justice , which began his work at the beginning of 1922. He served at the Court for a regular nine-year term until 1930.

Didrik Nyholm was a member of the Institut de Droit international from 1928 . He died in Copenhagen in 1931.
