The accumulation of capital. A contribution to the economic explanation of imperialism

The accumulation of capital. One contribution to the economic explanation of imperialism is an economic paper by Rosa Luxemburg from 1913. It was a decisive contribution to the imperialism debate in the run-up to the First World War .

Rosa Luxemburg's work was first published in 1913 by the social-democratic Vorwärts-Verlag and has been reprinted numerous times since then. Luxemburg refers theoretically to Karl Marx and his theory of " original accumulation " which he developed in the first volume of Capital . In the third section of the “accumulation of capital” in particular, Luxemburg examines the processes in which pre-capitalist economic and social forms are integrated into the capitalist economic cycle.

In the contemporary debate, Luxembourg thus provided an economic argumentation to criticize colonialism and the foreign policy crises resulting from colonial conflicts, such as the Moroccan crisis and the armament in pre-war Europe.

Luxemburg's argument was also based on Hilferding's 1910 publication Das Finanzkapital ; Lenin took up their argument anew in his 1916 work, The Imperialism as the Highest Stage of Capitalism against the Background of the World War.

In response to contemporary criticism in the social democratic press, Luxemburg wrote the anti-criticism , which was only published after her murder.
