The ax (original title: Ax ) is an American horror film from 1974.

action

The three crooks Steele, Lomax and Billy await Aubrey in a hotel room, who owes them money. Aubrey appears accompanied by a friend, but is killed by Lomax. The friend is pushed out the window. The three criminals can escape. You drive overland and reach a small shop. Steele and Lomax terrorize the clerk while Billy has a remorse.

The next day they come across a remote farm house that is inhabited by Lisa, who takes care of her physically disabled grandfather. It allows the men to sleep in the house. When the police reach the farm in their search for the criminals, Lisa is threatened with a gun by Steele and Lomax. Under pressure, she gets rid of the police.

During the night, Lomax tries to rape Lisa. Lisa can, however, kill her attacker by cutting her throat. In the bathroom she chops up the corpse with an ax and stows the body parts in a suitcase. Billy helps her bring the suitcase to the attic the next morning. When blood trickles out of the suitcase, he opens it and finds the remains of his friend. Lisa then claims that Lomax was killed by Steele.

Lisa makes Steele a sandwich in the kitchen, complimenting Steele. Since Lisa ignores his advances, he gets angry and takes her to the upper floor. While the grandfather is watching TV, the two fight each other. Lisa can kill Steele with an ax.

Lisa makes tomato soup for dinner. She feeds her grandfather upstairs while Billy eats in the kitchen. There he finds Steele's ring in the saucepan. Steele's body appears in the fireplace where Lisa stowed it. While Lisa is still humming to look after her grandfather, the terrified Billy flees the house. Outside, he is shot dead by police officers who came back to the farm in search of the farm.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films describes the work as a "horror thriller that tries to make up for a lack of formal skills with very bloodthirsty effects".

The Los Angeles Times reviewer described the film as a sick exercise in excessive on-screen sadism. It is filled with drastic brutality, the portrayal of blood is disgusting, the cinematic experience inhuman.

In contrast, Frank Lovace of the TV Guide wished Friedel would direct more films.
