The chaffinches
The Hamburger Bücherbrettl Die Buchfinken was a literary cabaret from 1952 to 1957 whose aim was to promote reading good books. It was sponsored by renowned bookstores and the German Book Trade Association.
history
Founded in 1952, the chaffinches made numerous guest tours through the Federal Republic in the following years. The leading bookshops in the cities visited usually acted as organizers. In 1952 and 1953, they presented their new programs to the specialist audience at the Frankfurt Book Fair . The new idea of a purely literary cabaret was already taken up in the founding year by the NWDR , which regularly broadcast the programs of the Hamburger Bücherbrettl. Programs with the chaffinches also ran on Hessian and South German radio, on Radio Bremen and on television.
Conception
The chaffinches' programs were not designed as readings, but as cabaret number programs. The book texts were presented in scenic form, often in dialogue, and also musically designed. Intermediate texts and chansons as well as the program booklets indicated the respective authors, book titles and publishers. Due to their conception, the chaffinches had prominent authors such as Bert Brecht , Thomas Mann , Christian Morgenstern , Kurt Tucholsky , Mark Twain .
ensemble
The program was designed by Dietrich Neuhaus , the founder and director. The ensemble included Günther Schramm and Helmut Griem , who were discovered here. Also as composer and arranger Nils Sustrate . As the named were soon committed to prominent theaters and / or made careers in film and television, the idealistic ensemble disbanded in 1957 despite great success.
