Nils Sustrate
Nils Sustrate (born September 1, 1931 in Hamburg ; † May 17, 1999 ibid) was a German musician , television and radio play composer and music teacher at schools and universities.
Live and act
Sustrate received his artistic training in the early 1950s at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and was subsequently involved in the founding of the literary cabaret Die Buchfinken , whose musical direction he took over, in the same decade . From then on, he also worked as a music teacher and composer in schools and at his old alma mater, where Sustrate took over a professorship for applied and popular music. In addition, Nils Sustrate composed stage and radio play music as well as individual songs and chansons as well as pieces for choir and orchestra.
His love for jazz should also be reflected in his compositions for cinema, television and advertising films. After sporadic activities in this sector during the 1960s, Nils Sustrate began to compose regularly for television in the early 1970s. Sustrate is particularly remembered for his close and (from 1970 to 1977) continuous collaboration with Wolfgang Petersen , whom he had known well for the previous decade. Petersen's Tatort - crime thrillers with Klaus Schwarzkopf are among Sustrate's most important television contributions; Sustrate's composition for the school- leaving certificate has become cult.
After Petersen's departure to Hollywood - Sustrate persistently refused to follow him there despite Petersen's pleading - Sustrate was hardly employed as a television composer and he only composed sporadically for the crime scene , including three productions by Jürgen Roland .
