Hein Bredendiek (born September 18, 1906 in Jever ; † April 24, 2001 in Oldenburg (Oldb) ) was a German art teacher, painter and Low German writer .

Life

Hein (actually Karl-Heinz) Bredendiek was the son of a teacher in Jever. After graduating from the Mariengymnasium Jever , where Georg von der Vring recognized his talent and promoted him, he studied art education, art history and philosophy at the State Art Academy in Berlin from 1926 . After internship and assessor time in Altona, Plön , Reinbek and Flensburg , he went in 1935 as a lecturer at the college for teacher training in Cottbus . From 1940 to 1945 he did military service in the Navy, after which he was initially appointed as a lecturer at the Oldenburg University of Education , was a teacher in Jever from 1949 to 1952 and at two grammar schools in Oldenburg (Oldb.) From 1952 to 1972 , most recently as director of studies .

The special achievements of Bredendiek are in his work as a painter of paintings, watercolors and drawings, which approximates existentialism . Until the last years of his life there were exhibitions in Oldenburg and Jever. However, he had a greater impact with his Low German writings, with books, stories and radio broadcasts in the Oldenburg-East Frisian town of Platt. For more than 25 years he was the “Baas” (chairman) of the Ollnborger Schrieverkring , an association of Low German writers in the Heimatbund for Low German culture De Spieker .

Awards

Hein Bredendiek received several awards for his services to the homeland and the Low German language, including the Freudenthal Prize for Low German poetry in 1959 , the Oldenburg Foundation's honorary gift in 1971 , the Lower Saxony Order of Merit 1st Class in 1981 and the Great Seal of the City of Oldenburg in 1986 . In 1986 he became an honorary citizen of the city of Jever .
