Run of a Death is a TV film from the crime series Tatort of ARD and ORF . The film was produced by Norddeutscher Rundfunk and broadcast for the first time on January 21, 1990. It is about the crime scene episode 227. For the detective chief inspector Paul Stoever ( Manfred Krug ) it is the 12th case. For his colleague Peter Brockmöller ( Charles Brauer ) it is the 9th case.

action

The Commissioners Stoever and Brockmöller are called to a murder case. Harry Tischler was brutally stabbed to death in his apartment. Apparently he had set up the house as a noble brothel and had a preference for male customers. The nature of the injuries led investigators to suspect a relationship act. But the deceased was not only active in the red light district. He was also the private driver for Herwart Branding, the State Councilor for Environmental Issues.

The investigators are looking for Branding, who cannot believe that his chauffeur was murdered. Even when he learns of his double life as a pimp, he is speechless. He is visibly concerned that the press might find out that he had chauffeured a homosexual for six years. When his wife finds out about this, she reproaches her husband for never really taking care of the people in his immediate environment as long as they function.

Stoever speaks to Branding's daughter, who tells him that she cares about her father. She got the information from a journalist she knows well that her father was in trouble. The electronics company, which he founded years ago and later transferred to her sister's husband, is suspected of supplying electronics for weapons to South Africa. When Branding learns of this allegation, he is stunned. He leaves his house late at night because he supposedly wants to meet someone who has important information for him. He has his daughter's car given to him in the hope of being able to distract the press people who have been besieging his house since the death of his chauffeur. He manages to leave the city, but branding has a fatal accident on the country road. Stoever learns from a journalist that someone in the editorial office had called him shortly beforehand and said that a terrorist attack was planned on the State Council, allegedly on behalf of an "Alexandro Tobler" command.

While Stoever takes care of the new case and tries to clarify who could have had an interest in switching off branding, Brockmöller follows a lead on Harry Tischler's murderer. An expensive piece of jewelry found in the dead man's safe deposit box leads to the jeweler Lothar Cassano. He admits that he was blackmailed by Carpenter because of his sexual orientation. Since his wife is monitoring the cash, he would have given him the expensive piece of jewelry. Through Cassano, Brockmöller succeeds in establishing contact with Tischler's ex-boyfriend, Jerry Baginski. When he tries to meet him, the latter takes flight and both fall in the pursuit. They were seriously injured and had to be taken to the clinic. Brockmöller visits Jerry Baginski in his hospital room and in conversation with him he confesses to the murder of Harry Tischler.

Branding's daughter visits Stoever and explains to him that her father felt betrayed by his entire family. She gives the commissioner a farewell letter and asks him not to let the public know about it. Branding writes in it that he was disappointed that his family was doing illegal business behind his back. Due to all these events, his political opponents also had more and more means against him in their hands, so that he wanted to steal them by his voluntary demise.
