The ladies (artist group)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Die Damen ( spelling : DIE DAMEN ) is a group of artists from Vienna and one artist from New York .

In 1987, ONA B. , Evelyne Egerer , Birgit Jürgenssen (1949–2003) and Ingeborg Strobl (1949–2017) founded the process-oriented artist group Die Damen , whose appearances and actions are characterized by “feather-light, mocking feminism ”. In 1993, Lawrence Weiner became a member of the group. The women are primarily known for their performance appearances, but are also represented in the exhibition with material works. In addition to appearing in public, they work with the media of photography , video and object .

“As an artist group with a focus on self-confident art by women, DIE DAMEN have become powerful in history. DIE DAMEN stage performances and parody events and have translated the genre of the Tableau Vivant , the living image, into the media age. Her live interpretations of the role play of the sexes, the comments on the status of women in the art world and in society are pointed and critical, humorous and full of self-irony. "
