The Democrats was a small party in Austria . It was founded in 1991 as FDP Austria by former State Secretary Mario Ferrari-Brunnenfeld, who left the FPÖ in 1986 . From 1996 to 2000, Ewald König , formerly deputy federal chairman of the Ring of Freedom Youth , directed the fate of the party. 1999 there should be a common candidate for the general election with the party , the Independent of Richard Lugner give, but which did not materialize due to political disagreements. The party came into the public eye in 2002 when the party leader at the time, Rudolf Fußi, launched a referendum against the procurement of new interceptors, which was signed by around 600,000 people. However, this success could not be implemented in elections; in the national elections in Austria in 2002 they only received 0.05% of the vote. Fussi later joined the SPÖ . The Democrats have not been active since 2002.
