In 1876, the two orphans Holly and Jason set out on their own through the Rocky Mountains to claim their inheritance at the end of the Oregon Trail . They meet the gambler Zachariah Coop, who after initial distrust becomes their companion. The three have many adventures on their journey across the North American continental divide .
