Boniface's Vacation is a Soviet animated short film directed by Fyodor Chitruk in 1965. It is based on a story by Miloš Macourek .

action

Boniface is a lion in a circus. He does his job well, gets along with the ringmaster and the performers, understands what is expected of him and therefore, although he is very good, can also roar terribly. The audience is impressed and Bonifazius advertises the circus on posters. One day he goes for a walk with the ringmaster, eats a banana and suddenly sees a bus full of children drive by. He asks why the children are not at school and the principal explains that the children are on vacation. Bonifazius also wishes for a vacation, so he could visit his homeland Africa and his grandmother who lives there. The director, to whom it was not previously clear that lions also have grandmothers, gives Boniface a vacation. He enthusiastically travels to Africa by train and boat and imagines his vacation in advance: he will lie in the sand every day, fish and eat his favorite dish, bananas.

Little has changed in Africa and his grandmother also knits, as she always did. Bonifazius is drawn to the nearby lake where he wants to fish. On the way he meets a little African girl who is afraid of him as a lion. She runs away and forgets her marbles. Boniface begins to juggle the marbles and the child loses his shyness. Shortly afterwards she returns with a friend, whom Bonifazius also has to show how he juggles with marbles. More and more children come and soon Bonifazius spends his vacation showing the children circus tricks. He forgets that he actually wanted to fish, forgets the sand and the bananas too. At the end, the ship's signal reminds him that his vacation is over. Grandmother knitted him a sweater and Bonifazius takes the ship back to Prague. He notes that vacations are wonderful.
